Our partner in this project is a nationwide consumer electronics distributor with a broad, fast-moving catalog and a big network of sales channels (brand name is under NDA). The company operates in the messy middle of modern pricing: brands expect clean MSRP discipline, marketplaces move prices constantly, and the same SKU can look “compliant” or “dumped” depending on the city, the promo mechanics, and even whether a customer has a loyalty card.

How we achieved the goal, step by step

We started where most pricing projects should start: not with a tool demo, but with the decisions the team needed to make.
  • Step 1: Mapping the workflow backwards

    First, we mapped the workflow backwards. When the distributor escalates an MSRP issue to a brand owner, what do they need in hand? Usually it’s simple: the product, the seller, the channel, the date and time, and the exact price context. That became our north star for the data model and reports.

  • Step 2: Source setup

    The distributor’s team already had the competitor and marketplace links they cared about. We imported those links into the PricingCraft platform, organized them by brand/category/channel, and set the single-city collection requirement so the same SKU wasn’t being compared across mismatched regional pricing.

  • Step 3: Scraper building and tuning

    Then we built and tuned scrapers for the full set of sources: 15 sites total, including 3 marketplaces. The focus was consistency. We didn’t optimize for flashy dashboards. We optimized for "can the pricing manager trust this every morning?" That meant clean extraction of list price, discounted price, loyalty-card price, and seller name.

  • Step 4: Pressure-testing

    Once the data was flowing, we pressure-tested it. We sampled outputs against live listings, watched for edge cases (promos that change formatting, sellers that rename, loyalty prices that appear only under certain conditions), and adjusted extraction rules until the outputs were stable.

  • Step 5: Training & Independence

    Finally, we made the system usable by the people who would live in it. We ran a short training with the pricing team: how to manage monitoring links, run checks, review changes, and export reports.

The distributor chose to work primarily inside the platform day to day, then generate file-based reports for internal sharing and brand escalations. The result was the part that matters most: the team could operate independently, without waiting on developers or analysts to "pull the data."

Fast start without consuming internal IT time

Marketplaces can be tough environments for automated collection. Pages change, defensive mechanisms trigger, and unstable collection creates bad decisions.
